At the waters near the Northwest Angle and Islands you will find a large variety in fish. The water is filled with muskie and walleye with smallmouth bass and northern pike being found also. On the rainy River you will find a great place for ice fishing and in the spring you will have a run of pre-spawn walleyes. On the South Shore you will get walleye and northern. In the winter the South Shore ice fishing is some of the best in the world. As you can see fishing is your number one option at Lake of the Woods but its only half the fun.

For the family you will have a wide variety of parks for the kids to enjoy. The latest addition is a must see the Timber Mill Community Park. The park is over 20 acres of land with 200 feet along the rainy River. This park is great for camping and they just finished the Skateboard Park for the kids to enjoy.

Do you have an itch for hunting? Don't worry Lake of the Woods has over 1,500 acres of land which is open for hunting. There are multiple seasons for one to enjoy. From September 1st to Mid-October you will be in Bear season. The season for geese and waterfowl is from September through October. If you are a bow hunter you will be able hunt dear in Mid-September while firearm hunters start in November. The entire dear season is over in Mod-December.

Many travel to the Lake of Woods for the water sports. There is 65,000 miles of shoreline to enjoy with the beaches being breathtaking. You will find seven different boat landings along the Rainy River to enjoy. There are companies that will rent boats and equipment.

In the winter one of the hottest activities is snowmobiling. In the Lake of Woods you will find hundreds of miles of groomed trails that you can enjoy. All of the trails are connected giving you easy access to the park. Also during the winter don't forget Cross Country Skiing at Zipple Bay State Park. You will find over 12 miles of maintained ski trails to enjoy.
